The new titanium Richard Mille RM UP-01 made in collaboration with Ferrari

Monégasque Formula One driver Charles Leclerc is wearing the new 39 mm titanium Richard Mille RM UP-01, made in collaboration with Ferrari.

The timepiece sets a new world record for the world’s thinnest watch with its 1,75 millimeters in thickness and a manual winding movement that measures 1,18 mm. The ultra-flat watch will be limited to 150 pieces worldwide.

Watch Review

The renowned watchmaker Richard Mille has launched a wristwatch that is unmatched by anything seen before. It was created in collaboration with Ferrari and is known as the RM UP-01. It is also the thinnest automatic timepiece ever made.

However, this Ferrari collaboration isn’t just the thinnest skeletonized watch on the market. It is also the most durable due to its capacity to withstand 5,000 Gs of stress and 10-meter water resistance. The redesigned escapement with a 5th-grade titanium casing design enables this remarkable size reduction.

The ultra-thin Caliber RMUP-01 powers the Richard Mille RM UP-01 Ferrari. It was created in partnership with the Audemars Piguet Le Locle factory, formerly referred to as Audemars Piguet Renaud et Papi, or APR&P. Richard Mille and APR&P have collaborated closely on the majority of the product’s intricate works from concept to manufacture. Hence, it has a functional selection, mechanical winding, and an hourly and minute window. It also provides customers with a 45-hour power reserve tailored to a higher rate of 4Hz. This makes it more appropriate for timepieces that are anticipated to be subjected to shocks regularly.

The RMUP-01 movement, which is manually wound and features an hourly and minute indicator and a functional selector, is only 1.18mm wide overall. It also weighs just 2.82 grams, but it can sustain amplitudes of over 5,000 Gs.

A titanium adjustable inertia balancing wheel is used in the complex design to reduce width without sacrificing functionality. The RM’s patent holder does away with all these parts and moves the bank functionality straight to the anchoring fork. This is unlike conventional escapements, which safeguard the lever from stress using a safety pin and security wheel with most pieces. In addition, its fork has been lengthened, and its horns have been changed to account for the length crunch.

The casing of the RM UP-01 Ferrari features a circular, rectangular shape because the bezel is one of the parts encircling the time window. The winding (W) and hand-setting (H) feature is selected using the first “crown,” which is located around 10 and 11 o’clock. On the other hand, the time or barrel wound is selected using the second “crown,” located at 7 and 8 o’clock.

The large bezel has the crown for choosing wound or resetting choices carved onto it. Two black ceramic inlays in this crown shield the bezel from wear and water damage. This ultra-slim watch’s dial is protected on all sides by anti-reflective coatings and sapphire crystal. A reference to the race theme of this incredible work of contemporary artwork is the Ferrari emblem engraved on it.

As per Richard Mille, a limited edition of just 150 pieces of this incredibly tiny timepiece will be produced. This contemporary wonder of watchmaking is available to RM devotees and collectors. Everything has been justified by the amount of detail and complex talent necessary to create this masterpiece.
