Overall Review

Samuel Eto’o, a renowned football player, was born in Cameroon in 1981. With a history of four African Player of the Year Awards, he is by far the most distinguished footballer of African descent. In addition, while playing for Barcelona and Inter Milan FC, Eto’o was the first African footballer to achieve two continental awards in Europe.

At 11 in 1992, Samuel Eto’o started playing football at Kadji Sports Academy. Due to his lack of an identity document, his transfer to a French club was unsuccessful. Nonetheless, in 1997, he signed with the Real Madrid youth team.

On March 9, 1997, while facing Costa Rica, Eto’o made his first appearance for his country at age 15. He was also the youngest player in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, being only 17 years old.

On June 6, 2002, Eto’o scored the first goal against Saudi Arabia in the FIFA World Cup. Samuel was indeed an important player as Cameroon ended up winning two African Cup of Nations championships in 2000 and 2002.

With 14 goals, he and Laurent Pakou took the top spot in the African Cup of Nations scoring history. At the age of 33, he declared his resignation from international football on August 27, 2014.

At Real Madrid, Eto’o began his professional career as a young man. Later, he was loaned out by Real Madrid to a number of soccer teams, such as Leganes FC, Espanyol FC, and Mallorca, where he eventually signed a long-term contract. With 54 goals, the Cameroonian became Mallorca FC’s all-time leading scorer. After his attempt to return to Real Madrid fell through, he decided to join Barcelona in 2004. With 26 goals, Eto’o beat Valencia FC’s David Villa to the top-scoring spot during the 2006 season.

Eto’o was acquired by FCMakhachkala FC in 2011 and became the top-paid player in the world. He transferred to Chelsea FC on a one-year contract for the 2013–2014 season. Later, he was signed by Everton FC in 2015, achieving four goals through 20 games, and he only left after a half-season. After that, he moved to AntalyasporFC and Sampdoria FC, where he made little contribution. He is presently a player in Turkey with KonyasporFC.

In addition to his football career, Eto’o has recently collaborated with the Swiss watch company to create the Genius “Samuel Eto’o” watch. This is one of the unique timepieces ever made. It features a 39mm stainless steel casing, including a green dial that displays the Cameroonian flag’s colors.

Generally, only three pieces of this watch have been made so far. However, the Genius “Samuel Eto’o” watch is even more exclusive because it comes with the great striker’s national league player identity number 9 in yellow.
