Autumn provides us with a stunning display of shifting leaf colors as the Sun loses its strength and the temperatures fall. Patek Philippe apparently drew inspiration for its newest version of the World Time Flyback Chronograph model 5935A from the warming, gold leaves. In 2016, Patek debuted their renowned World Time complexity (created by Louis Cottier), coupled with a Chrono, to provide a rich display of manufacturing skill and usability.

A highly coveted Patek Philippe classic, the World-Time Flyback Chrono is currently interpreted in steel for the inaugural time by ref. 5935. Its “carbon” guilloche motif dial in rose-gilded opaline gives it a striking, contemporary, and unique look. It also features several historical Patek Philippe accents, including dauphine indexes in charcoal grey and white gold and attached hour markings in the shape of batons. These elements are all coated in a white luminous material for visibility, and they are all visible on the top of a 41-millimeter casing that’s also 12.75 mm tall.

Two renowned and illustrious Patek Philippe intricacies are combined in this 41mm, extremely intricate piece. The brand is famous for its chronographs. You may recall the recent Patek Philippe 5470P 1/10th of a Second Monopusher Chronograph, demonstrating the brand’s skill at producing elegant and extremely accurate chronographs. The 41mm size is also a slight upgrade from earlier, valuable metal models, which were 39.5mm wide.

The reference. 515 in red gold, which Patek Philippe created in association with independent designer Louis Cottier in 1937, is the predecessor of Patek Philippe’s renowned World Time timepieces. It was the company’s first timepiece with world time. Cottier and Patek Philippe were inspired to create World-Time pieces by the fast development of telecommunications as well as long-distance traveling tech during the period. The 96HU and 542HU, two iconic Patek Philippe world time variants, were made possible by the ref: 515. It served as a prelude to the company’s more recent product introductions, which included the 5231G-001 in white gold featuring an enamel dial. It also had the 5230P-001 in platinum featuring a blue dial and the 7130R-014 in rose gold featuring a green dial, all of which were made early in the year.

The brand-new 5935A-001’s movement also features the symbol HU, which represents “Heure Universelle” and translates to “World Time.”

The 5930, the inaugural Patek Philippe timepiece to integrate global time and Chrono features, introduced the CH 28520 HU caliber in 2016. Similarly, the blue dial of the white golden 5930 featured a hand-made round guilloché motif.

The Caliber CH 28520 measures 34.5 millimeters wide, has a height of 7.97mm and vibrates at 4Hz. It also comprises 343 pieces, along with a Gyromax balancing as well as a 21K gold wheel, and it comes with a reserve power capacity of approximately 50 – 55 hours.

Additionally, the watch features a flyback Chrono, including a 30-minute timer completed with exquisite concentric circles. It also indicates 24-time zone differences, local time on the primary hands, plus a revolving dark and bright disc that constantly shows the day and night time hours in the relevant cities. The moving seconds can be seen on the middle chronograph indicator, thanks to a vertical plate clutch, which as well guarantees low wear.

A system developed in 1999 advances the hour pointer by one-hour intervals while the 24-hour, as well as city circles, rotate counter-clockwise to reset as required. This pusher is located at the ten o’clock spot. Likewise, the chronograph is started and stopped by the button at 2 and is adjusted using its flyback feature by the button at 4. To wound the device, press in the crown, and to change the time, simply draw it out. This may seem simple, yet not overly simple.

Furthermore, a screw-in fastening crown featuring a Calatrava cross is included. All of this is capped by a sapphire crystal which is resistant to scratches and helps with waterproofing of up to 30 m (or 100 feet). Also, two hand-stitched calfskin straps are included with the Patek Philippe 5935A-001 World Time Flyback Chronograph. One is taupe with beautifully textured calfskin, and the other is beige, featuring a nubuck polish.
