Hanhart Unveils New 417 ES Flyback Series in Panda and Reverse Panda Dial

Hanhart has had a fairly exciting two or three years. The company, which focuses on Flieger chronographs and timepieces associated with aircraft, was already well-known. However, the recent release of the 417 ES piece, another edition of a significant historical watch, only piqued curiosity, with good cause.

Generally, there’s much to appreciate about this watch: it is well-made, well-designed, chronologically authentic, and moderately valued. The company is simply about to increase the appeal of this line, which is already offered in two different sizes.

  • Panda Hanhart 417 ES 1954 Flyback

At first glance, this innovative duo of Hanhart 417 ES Chronographs seems to be nothing more than a fresh set of dials featuring panda and reverse panda designs. It’s not entirely incorrect, yet there’s more to these recent launches than the appearance. This is a brand-new lineup of four variants, each of which comes in a 39mm and a 42mm casing and features a few small variations based on the dial’s dimensions and design.

These revolutionary panda and reverse panda pieces, like all other 417 ES timepieces before them, are replicas of the legendary chronographs from the 1950s. This describes a well-shaped case, rich in vintage elements yet contemporary in several ways. The stainless steel casing, or Edelstahl to be precise, features a nice finished bevel on the edge of the lugs and a polished center compartment. The enormous crown, as well as the pump peddlers, which have an unusually symmetrical structure for Hanhart, both feature the same striking finish.

  • The bezel

Of course, the essential Hanhart trademark bezel is there. It has a glossy coating and a fluted pattern, a red inlay to indicate the zero, and, as would be anticipated, it constantly rotates with a pleasingly smooth action. It, however, doesn’t snap.

The device is protected by a convex, anti-reflective sapphire crystal and has pleasant 100-meter waterproof, thanks to the screwed caseback. Indeed, there are two main aspects, 39 and 42 millimeters, that are essentially similar (apart from a small feature on the rear), with 13.5 mm in height. When it comes to lug-to-lug, they measure 49 and 46.5 millimeters, correspondingly.

  • The dials

You will have a choice of two variations: a panda-style version (white dial featuring black markers) or a reverse panda alternative (black dial and white counters). Technically, there are four options available to you. They both feature the conventional bi-compax arrangement, huge, illuminated Arabic markings, classic fonts and emblems, and brilliant pencil hands in a complementing color.

The reverse panda version has a significant distinction that increases its allure. Super-LumiNova has also been applied to the sub-counters, making them glow at night.

  • The movement

The latest Hanhart 417 ES 1954 Flyback series incorporates a brand-new movement featuring a Retour en vol, or flyback mechanism, precisely like the vintage watches from the 1950s. This function enables a chronograph series to reset or restart with the simple touch of a pusher at four o’clock.

There is still more. Firstly, you’ll see a variation between the 42-millimeters model, which comes with a sapphire caseback showcasing the movement, as well as the 39mm, which features robust antimagnetic steel back. This explains how the dials differ from one another.

In addition, the internal movement has significant differences. It is no longer a traditional hand-winding, Valjoux-based, cam-lever engine.

The updated caliber, which Sellita still makes, currently includes a flyback function along with a column wheel that controls all chronograph features. It is imitative from the 7750 and yet has undergone significant evolution, such as a longer 58-hour power reserve. Moreover, you can notice the blue column wheel and the uppermost bridge of Geneva lines when the rear of the object is sapphire.

  • The strap

Every model comes complete with a 2-piece, white-stitched strap made of black calfskin. A second Bund-style inscription is also readily removable if you prefer a more understated appearance.

Likewise, Alcantara is used to make the internal surface of the straps, making them more comfortable. Lastly, the style is completed with a custom steel pin clasp.
