The Last King of Iran wearing a rare Rolex 1831

The last king of Iran Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, known as “The Shah”, is in this 70s photo wearing a extremely rare Rolex 1831. Only 9 pieces were ever made, all on special order by the late Shah. This is Nr. 1 but there was also other examples in other dial colors, but all in platinum.

The case measures 36 mm and with its weight of 290 grams, it is thought to be the heaviest Rolex watch ever. The diamonds on the bezel and hour markers are set further towards the outer part of the case than is normally seen with Rolex day dates. The watch is known as “The King Of Day-Dates”.

Price: Auctioned by Phillips Watches in 2016 for $225,000.00 USD.
