Watch Description

TAG Heuer has recently unveiled its latest special edition of their classic square chronograph. It shared the same name as the iconic Formula 1 race and was just in time for the seventh race of the season. This new special edition of Monaco was also based on its contemporary version with in-house Chrono movement and synthetic materials. Furthermore, it included an elegant combination of colors and intonations, correlating with the onset of the Monaco GP weekend, as with last year with the Monaco Titan Limited Edition.

The casing is composed of second-grade sandblasted titanium and is afterward finished in black DLC. This is the most significant element of this latest 2022 TAG Heuer Monaco Special Edition. The pushers, crown, and caseback are all made of similar material and have the same finishing as the rest of the timepiece. The characteristic square casing is 39mm x 39mm in size, with a prominent 15mm length. It also boasts a reasonable 100m waterproofing and is capped by the standard and beautiful curved sapphire crystal.

When fashioned of stainless steel, this casing feels large and hefty on the wrist. As a result, just with the 2021 Monaco Titan, adopting a titanium casing in this new Black DLC edition makes perfect sense. Nevertheless its prominent presence, this updated iteration is much lighter and considerably more pleasant to wear. In addition, Monaco’s measurements are visually reduced by the matte black case. This makes it one of the most fashionable versions.

The dial is the second new feature of this 2022 TAG Heuer Monaco Special Edition. It is based on the traditional “ring in a square” motif, highlighted by a series of textures. The dial is completely black, yet the edge has an unusual rough, grainy appearance. The conventional, radially-mounted application markings for hours are available in this section. For improved contrast, these are facetted and refined. The dial’s middle section is finished in a satin-brushed circular pattern, whereas the numerals are matte opaline. The 5N rose gold-plated indexes and attached markings, as well as the brilliant red indicators for the chronograph signals, are notable for their use of color.

Additionally, the 2022 TAG Heuer Monaco Special Edition is presented on a black alligator strap. It features tone-on-tone detailing and a DLC-coated titanium folding clasp with double safety push buttons, which complements the gloomy aesthetic.

The in-house Calibre Heuer 02 is also viewable within the casing and below the screwed caseback. The movement is a contemporary incorporated Chrono with a column wheel and vertical clutch that has an impressive 80-hour power reserve. It is capped with a rose gold-plated vibrating mass that matches the dial’s highlights. Furthermore, it is designed with Geneva stripes as well as matte finishes.
