It’s in Roger Dubuis nature to look for motivation in the most unlikely places. This entails teaming up with well-known urban culture designers who embrace its ideals to defy convention, display cutting-edge skills, and continuously think about future models. With the Excalibur Sorayama Monobalancier (MB), Roger Dubuis introduces the third watch from its Urban Culture Tribe. It carries on a quest to produce groundbreaking works of art. Japanese designer Hajime Sorayama, a forerunner in his field, has been a role model for his contemporaries for many years. He defied expectations and upended norms by creating his ultra-realistic feminine “Sexy Robots.” Hence, he has received numerous honors for his talent. Besides, his brilliance has allowed him to collaborate with major brands in high fashion, innovation, and even music.

Roger Dubuis welcomed Sorayama to the Manufacture so that he could take on the artistic endeavor of reinterpreting Maison’s ethereal hallmark. This is because he is aware that he seeks chances that exceed the limits of his work. Always refusing to back down from a fight, Roger Dubuis decided earlier this year to redesign and remodel its piece of art, the Excalibur Monobalancier. The casing and movement have crisp lines that give them a more profound feeling of depth, and the trademark star also floats freely over the barrel. It’s a development that brings the watch up to a better quality and transforms it into a dynamic canvas on which Sorayama may portray himself.

The artist sought to be controversial by defying Maison’s style guidelines in his hyper-expressive and sophisticated interpretation of the Excalibur MB. The sharp style and contrasting treatments that Roger Dubuis typically uses to distinguish his artworks are obscured by curved lines as well as a complete gloss polish. Sorayama additionally drew inspiration from his renowned works by mirroring them in the refined titanium finishing of his 3D artworks. In order to duplicate the desired glossy look, Maison’s highly trained watchmakers had to devise innovative approaches.

Roger Dubuis designers extended the RD720SQ’s power reserve to 72 hours out of a drive for high performance. They also quadrupled the momentum of the balancing rotor to increase steadiness and reduce sensitivity to shocks, while they tuned the micro-rotor to minimize vibrations. The escapement rotor’s design was optimized and paired with movable pallet stones. Both components were made of silicon with a diamond coating to boost effectiveness and energy conduction even more.

Additionally, the ultra-elegant work of art marks the first bracelet made of Roger Dubuis titanium 5th grade to have its Quick Release System for convenience and adaptability. It is also encased in a 42 mm casing made from titanium 5th grade. The Excalibur Sorayama MB is, in Sorayama’s words, a beautiful combination of two realms, having Roger Dubuis’ and his own identity both recognized at first glance. Sorayama claims that the clock results from them working together in the best possible harmony. He also stated that he was ecstatic that they successfully created such a highly expressive watch.

The two designers have developed a unique moiré and a remarkable masterpiece by exceeding their limitations. Overall, the completely redesigned Roger Dubuis x Sorayama wristwatch is a limited edition with a maximum of 28 pieces. And although the timepiece will be sold globally, it is only available in Japan.
