Rare Rolex GMT-Master II in white gold featuring a ‘Meteorite’ dial

Mark Wahlberg is wearing a rare 40mm Rolex GMT-Master II in 18k white gold with a “Pepsi” bezel featuring a ‘Meteorite’ dial, a model that I find much more appealing than the new Rolex watches.

The material used is called ‘Gibeon Meteorite,’ which is one of the rarest materials found on Earth. The meteorites are today protected by law, and it’s prohibited to remove any of their material from where they are located, but Rolex acquired its slices of the meteorite before the law was passed, and the brand creates, therefore, meteorite dials on a very limited basis.

At Baselworld 2019, the Rolex GMT-Master II ‘Meteorite’ dial was unveiled as a “small” release with the show’s big hitters, such as the Batman in a Jubilee bracelet. Funny enough, due to its initial dial carved from a piece of meteorite, the GMT-Master II might be more unique, unlike the steel Pepsi or the Batman.

The meteorite dial is unquestionably the most intriguing element of the 2019 Rolex GMT Master II. It contains a dial made of Gibeon meteorite, a space rock that fell to Earth. It marks the first instance a GMT has been graced with a meteorite dial. This is despite the fact that Rolex has used them in the past, most famously with a white golden Rolex Daytona earlier in 2008.

This meteorite has a distinctive and peculiar brilliance and is primarily made of iron and nickel. It is believed to have started as a fragment of a melting planetary core that has been traveling across space for ages. Scientists hypothesize that this melted rock froze in the space vacuum over the journey, resulting in the distinctive crystallized iron or nickel motifs visible on the dial of the Rolex GMT-Master II. Although it appears to be a strange selection for a practical timepiece such as the GMT Master II, there is no doubt that it is a debated subject and is undeniably a classy touch.

The case and bracelet of the Rolex GMT-Master II are made entirely of solid 18-karat white gold. This timepiece has an astonishing weight that may only be explained by the usage of a significant size of gold. The Oyster casing is made up of a robust screw-down caseback, a sapphire crystal that resists scratches, a Triplock water-resistant screw-down crown, as well as a Monobloc inner case. The model 126719BLRO, similar to all other Rolex GMT-Master II pieces, is waterproof up to 100 meters. This provides sufficient defense for swimming, traveling, and everyday wear.

In addition, the flawlessly constructed Oyster Buckle with a 2mm extender unites the entire bracelet. In short, Rolex has achieved balance with the bracelet by bringing together design and purpose.

This piece’s newly introduced caliber 3285 movement, covered by no less than ten trademarks, is currently featured in all GMT-Master II versions. The movement has a Chronergy escapement, a Parachrom hairspring, and a strong power reserve of 70 hours. It is outfitted with everything of Rolex’s in-house goods. Also, this 3285 boasts a Superlative-Chronometer accreditation, COSC, and inner inspections, providing in -2/+2 sec per day precision.
