Omega Speedmaster 50th Anniversary Co-Axial Chronometer Chronograph “Silver Snoopy Award”

Footballer Luka Modric, midfielder for Real Madrid and captain of the Croatia national team, is wearing a 42mm stainless steel Omega Speedmaster 50th Anniversary Co-Axial Chronometer Chronograph “Silver Snoopy Award.”

The timepiece is presented on a blue nylon fabric strap. It features a silver dial with blue PVD angle-shaped hour markers and hands, as well as an embossed silver Snoopy medallion on the blue subdial at 9 o’clock. The animated cartoon character is shown on a magical hand, which rotates when the chronograph function is used.

Overall Description

In 2003, Omega released the very first Speedmaster Snoopy version. This commemorated the unusual relationship between the Swiss watchmaker, NASA, and the iconic beagle from the comic strip Peanuts.

The “Silver Snoopy Award” was created by astronauts to honor people and organizations who made major contributions to “the accomplishment of human space flight programs.” Snoopy was selected as the mascot of NASA’s safety policy in 1968. When Charles M. Schulz began drawing comic strips picturing the iconic dog figure on the moon in the 1960s, Snoopy became NASA astronauts’ mascot.

Omega got the prize in 1970 because of its contributions to space research. This was particularly the Speedmaster’s crucial assistance during the Apollo 13 rescue mission.

The latest Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award” 50th Anniversary produced a lot of talk among wristwatch enthusiasts as well as collectors. It’s notably because of the unusual graphics on the caseback, which distinguishes this version from every Speedmaster unique version.

This timepiece is made of stainless steel and measures 42 mm wide, which is the standard Moonwatch dimension. In comparison, the current model is somewhat larger at 14.47 mm, including the sapphire crystal (vs. 14.26 mm).

The casing features a blue ceramic [ZrO2] fixed bezel featuring a tachymeter scale, traditional Lyra lugs, and an asymmetric layout. It has a waterproof capacity of up to 50 meters / 165 feet.

The center etching “Ag925” indicates that the dial is made of silver. The three blue subdials stand out well against the silver ground. The 30-minute as well as 12-hour Chrono markers have a snailed finishing and are located at 3 and 6 o’clock positions.

At 9 o’clock, the Snoopy mascot makes the initial impression in the engraved silver medallion on the blue subdial. This is a replica of the silver pin, which NASA astronauts present to reward victors. The “50th Anniversary” inscription commemorates the 50th anniversary of a Silver Snoopy Award.

The blue hourly markings, hands, and angle-shaped hourly indicators complement the ensemble nicely. The color of the blue will fluctuate based on the lighting or direction of the surroundings.

The Omega Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 – an upgraded edition of Calibre 861 / 1861 – beats at 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations an hour). It also has a power reserve of 50 hours if wholly wound.

A co-axial escapement, as well as a free-sprung balancing with a silicon balance spring, are included in this movement. It’s a METAS-certified Master Chronometer that can withstand magnetic forces up to 15,000 gausses.

Lastly, the timepiece is outfitted with a blue nylon fabric band that complements the dial as well as the ceramic bezel wonderfully.
