The green sunburst Tapisserie dial features white gold applied hour-markers with a flying tourbillon and Royal Oak hands.

About The Watch

A Royal Oak that has been around for 50 years deserves a huge commemoration, and Audemars Piguet would go above and beyond to do just that. In addition to having hit the 50-year mark, its level of demand has also never been higher. The new variants of Audemars Piguet’s 41mm Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon with the company’s most recent mechanical movement and the illustrious Gerald Genta design that propelled a thousand boats and ships have been released. The innovative Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon variants, which are offered in titanium, showcase the modest design advancements made for this anniversary year.

The 2022 trilogy has many characteristics similar to the 2020 series. However, it distinguishes itself as a 50th-anniversary edition with a few small but significant design changes. The casing still retains a diameter of 41mm and a thickness of 10.6mm, but the bracelet, as well as the case’s bevels, have become broader. The more prominent bevels emphasize the contrast in lighting among the finished and satin-polished faces and draw attention to the Royal Oak casing’s innovative construction. The initial connections of the integral bracelet have a diminishing width that illuminates the piece’s appearance and draws attention to the watch’s thin aspect. Another improvement to the layout makes the sapphire caseback somewhat recessed into the casing’s center, improving how the timepiece rests on the wrist.

The titanium edition of the Royal Oak sport a green sunburst Tapisserie dial with a lovely degradé or ombre aspect, which is a distinguishing attribute of the brand. The smoky green dial features AP’s signature Grande Tapisserie design. This differs from the Evolutive Tapisserie motif first presented on the hand-wound tourbillon variants in 2018 by having a focus point emanating from the center of the tourbillon.

It is the first time the self-winding caliber AP 2950 movement, initially only available for the CODE 11:59 series, has been installed in a Royal Oak watch. One of Audemars Piguet’s earliest flying tourbillon movements, the caliber 2950 is a strong, modern movement featuring a 3Hz rate and a convenient 65-hour power reserve. To set it apart from Code 11.59, the treatment are Haute Horlogerie comprising hand-polished chamfers, snailing, and crisp Côtes de Genève.

To complement the case element, the titanium variants have a rhodium accent on the wheel. Furthermore, the AP signature and the number 50 are engraved on the surface of the oscillating weight. This was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Royal Oak.

Adorned with refined and satin-finishings, the special edition oscillatory mass with the 50th-anniversary emblem can only be used throughout 2022 and eliminated from references come 2023.
