To unveil the brand-new Diver Norrøna Arctic Night, the Swiss wristwatch Ulysse Nardin pairs up with Norrøna. It’s a Norwegian outside sportswear company renowned for its luxurious and sustainable apparel. By working together, Norrøna and Ulysse Nardin utilize ecological and alternate materials to fulfill their common environmental obligations.

In conjunction with the debut, Ulysse Nardin is pleased to share the news of its collaboration with Børge Ousland, a prominent Norrøna family member and polar adventurer from Norway. The watch comes with an arktis GoreTex® Pro Norrøna jacket and is available in a limited number of just 29 pieces.

A Partnership with Shared Drive

Given their shared passion for the outdoors and desire to transition to a more “round model” by utilizing alternative products in their particular fields, it is not surprising that the two firms agreed to collaborate. Both companies have made a conscious decision to produce more ecological products.

A Swiss designer Ulysse Nardin, who had his headquarters in the magnificent Jura Mountains, started selling marine chronometers in 1860 so that explorers, mariners, and voyagers could use them to plot their voyages at sea. Currently, Ulysse Nardin is a stand-alone manufacturer, 5 generations afterward.

In 1929, Norwegian adventure fanatic Jørgen Jørgensen started looking for more robust gear in the country’s arid and unforgiving terrain. The Norrøna firm is still operated and managed by a family presently, 4 generations later.

Recently, Ulysse Nardin released the Diver Norrøna Arctic Night, a timepiece bearing both companies’ famous logos, DNA, and environmental values.

The Diver Norrøna Arctic Night is a new black version of the most environmentally friendly timepiece in Ulysse Nardin’s lineup. It was released just 6 months after The Ocean Race Diver model was introduced in conjunction with The Ocean Race. This timepiece’s black, gray, and white tint scheme evokes the profound, dark, ancient geologic structures that constitute the Earth’s oldest, most well-preserved sedimentary rocks. It was prompted by the image of Norwegian scenery, which stirs up thoughts of the Fjords and volcanic rocks.

The two businesses’ dedication to securing a tomorrow for the world, beginning with the poles, is symbolized by this new collaborative endeavor. The polar sea ice contributes to the regulation of the planet’s climate. Moreover, we know that the polar oceans’ temperature increase has significant effects on both the species that inhabit them and humans. Thus, this partnership is an action call.

Sustainability and Union

Nowadays, a lot of watch companies have gotten on the sustainability toboggan and would like the universe to know that they are contributing to the fight against global warming. The Ulysse Nardin collection has always followed a nautical course. This is whether it is with traditional interpretations such as the Marine Torpilleur or more modern 300-meter diving pieces in the Diver line. The device’s basis, the Ocean Race Diver, was unveiled 6 months ago and is constructed of cutting-edge, recycled content, reflecting the company’s dedication to protecting marine life. The casing and caseback combine a 60-40 mix of reused fishing nets and carbonium, together with recyclable stainless steel for certain elements. So, according to the company, the watch has a 40 percent lower environmental effect than conventional casings.

Norrøna company specializes in rugged outdoor gear for Norway’s hostile conditions, like wetsuits for cold-water Arctic surfing. By 2029, it intends to become the most sustainable outdoor brand. Ulysse Nardin and Norrøna also rely on Børge Ousland, a Norwegian adventurer, veteran deep-sea diver, and Navy Seal, as a collaborator to provide the timepiece a true action-worn appearance. It’s worth noting that Ousland also offered advice on the creation of the arktis Norrøna jacket, which comes with the wristwatch.

The traditional dual X-shape is etched in the center of the dial’s black sandblast finish. With a round date display with Norrøna’s Viking symbol in the middle, it comes with a power reserve indication at 12:00 and a revolving seconds timer at six o’clock. Super-LumiNova is used to illuminate the small, thick indicators, denoted by lumed hour and minute indexes. Also, a contrasted tone of grey is used to highlight the marks on the dial, subdials, and bidirectional spinning bezel.

The UN-118 automated manufacturing movement is visible through the smoky sapphire caseback featuring Norrøna’s Viking insignia. The company’s first proprietary baseline caliber, the UN-118, was introduced within the Marine Chronometer Manufacture in 2012. It was equipped with state-of-the-art nanotechnology in the shape of a silicium hairspring and a DiamonSil escapement (an integration of silicon and synthetic diamond). Moreover, the 50-jewel movement has a 28,800 vph operating speed and a 60-hour power reserve.

Børge Ousland: Well-Known Explorer of the Modern Era

Børge Ousland is a brave explorer and author from Norway. He is also curious, self-assured, and courageous and was the first to accomplish solo expeditions of the Arctic and the Antarctic. To achieve his severe objectives, he suffered limb-freezing cold and confrontations with polar bears while pulling supplies sleds averaging close to 150 kg.

Børge, who is also a former deep-sea diver and seal for the Norwegian Navy, made his first voyage through Greenland in 1986. Moreover, he has collaborated on the next excursions with Mike Horn and French adventurer Vincent Colliard.

In his statement, Børge Ousland stated that the best way to change the world is to lead by example. You must participate in the resolution if you’re a contributor to the problem.

The ice in the Polar Ocean has decreased by over 60 percent since he first stepped foot there in 1990. He also said that he had observed the changes throughout his lifetime and that the result of climatic changes is a very different scenario.

However, according to Børge, nothing is wholly negative. Even issues have benefits in some ways since how we respond to difficulties truly distinguishes us. Perhaps we could exploit the immense challenge that climate change actually poses to unleash the best within us and show what humanity is capable of.
