For decades, TAG Heuer and Porsche have always been motivated by a shared heritage of creativity and motorsports. The two were also driven by forward-thinking families whose performance, accuracy, and business ideals drove them to the top of their particular fields.

Nevertheless, in early 2021, TAG Heuer and Porsche established a global brand relationship and have now released three joint watches. Recently, they teamed up once more to commemorate their extraordinary collaboration with a grand celebration in Paris on the precise 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7. Two additional iconic TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche RS 2.7 timepieces were also unveiled during that evening party celebration hosted at Place Vendôme.

The 2 limited-edition watches showcased the distinguishing characteristics that have rendered the 1963 Chrono as well as the 1972 racing car as renowned icons in watchmaking and motorsports. Moreover, TAG Heuer and Porsche displayed their genuine and strong collaboration as well as their shared love of Carrera sport with these commemorative products.

To make it even better, TAG Heuer and Porsche asked their dearest friends, business associates, media, and influencers to join them in celebrating. Hence, they saw the new timepieces first-hand and felt the force of what is achievable whenever two of the best-admired companies in the watch and automobile industries joined forces.

The milestone of the R.S. 2.7, thus, served as the occasion to commemorate the influential cooperation of TAG Heuer and Porsche. Besides, the event underlined the long-standing connections between TAG Heuer and motorsport, as well as the ongoing legacy of its famous designs. Along with Porsche, they continue to push the boundaries of innovation and performance, designing watches that provide distinctive style, unforgettable encounters, and several exciting potential future collaborations.

About TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7

The collaboration of TAG Heuer and Porsche has served as a consistent inspiration source for the company. This was since they formally strengthened the long-standing links to the German sports car juggernaut in February 2021.

In addition, the TAG Heuer and Porsche partnership is still strong, with numerous successful tributes throughout the Carrera and Connected series. For its newest co-branded launch, TAG Heuer pays homage to what is arguably the most significant Porsche 911 of all time. The Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 was created in reaction to the initial 911’s poor record in motorsport racing and debuted in 1972.

Overall, the two recently released watches are not only limited but also come with some of the most remarkable features. Here’s thus a brief review of the pieces:

  • The Dial

White dials with colored highlights—blue on the steel version and red on the golden version—are present on every ownership choice. The hands adorning the indexes and the center Chrono seconds indicator adapt the case-specific colors.

The TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 presents details in a highly comprehensible manner, maintaining Jack Heuer’s preference for clear and uncomplicated dials. The indicators and baton-style, luminous hour and minute indexes adhere to the well-proven contemporary Carrera art style. Also, rhodium-coated items are swapped out for gold in the gold casing edition, which adds a depth note.

Upon the first view, the dial might be mistaken for a bi-compax configuration. Nevertheless, closer inspection reveals a subtly audible tiny seconds indicator at six o’clock. Although it is readable, it takes a back seat to the surrounding Chrono registers in comparison.

Based on the type of case element chosen, the chronograph registers are snailed and integrate matching blue or red accents. A twelve-hour chronograph counter is placed on the other side of the crown from a 30-minute Chrono register. The placement of the records complements some much-needed balance, and the date window at 6 o’clock, which is on a north-south plane, adds to the watch’s incredibly symmetrical aesthetic.

  • The case

The 42mm diameter of both casing variants provides a dimension with widespread appeal. As a result, this watch is convenient because it has an identical case to the “standard” Carrera 42mm (introduced in 2020). The label’s crew, led by Guy Bove, the art director, has worked hard to improve the case’s and bracelet’s aesthetics. Thus, you only need to put the timepiece on your wrist to realize their work wasn’t futile.

The casing has many light-interacting features that fill the interior with varying areas of brightness and darkness. Besides, the lever at two o’clock on the stainless variant is blue, but there is no color on the golden model.

The title “Carrera” is adorned on the left side of the casing, partly in-depth and in the recognizable font. However, the inscription is placed against the blue-tinted inset on the steel type, whereas the gold variant forgoes color to best display its exquisite material.

TAG Heuer provides the steel edition on a stainless H-shaped band combined with a second “sporting material strap” adorned with Carrera lettering. Moreover, a Guards Red leather strap gives the gold variant a more refined appeal.

  • Movement

The Calibre Heuer 02 Automatic, introduced in 2017, is completely integrated and uses a column rotor and vertical linking, frequently regarded as the ideal specifications for a Chrono. There are two key reasons behind this. First, click the button at two o’clock to see the middle Chrono seconds’ indicator start moving without any lag. Second, as you push the pushers, take note of how soft and flawless they look as they move.

This motion will continue on its own for 80 hours and operates at a rate of 28,800 mph (or 4 Hz). Furthermore, users are treated to various upscale touches, which are viewable through a display caseback. For example, the arches are decorated with a Côtes de Genève design, and the oscillatory mass is co-branded and open-worked.

Bottom Line

TAG Heuer has long been tuned into the motor racing and automotive industries. However, when the two companies officially partnered, it took this fusion of interests to an entirely different level. As 2022 is ending, TAG Heuer and Porsche have once more given followers of both fields cause for celebration. TAG Heuer Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 is undeniably the best product from their partnership.
