Presenting the new Gerald Charles Maestro 8.0 Squelette

Presenting the new Gerald Charles Maestro 8.0 Squelette, the latest addition to the Swiss watch company’s collection. The 100 pieces yearly limited timepiece combines Mr. Genta’s unique 39mm Maestro case with an open-worked skeleton movement. The ultra-thin watch, only 8,35mm thick, features a movement with 160 components – only 2,6mm high. Despite its slimness, it offers 50 hours of power reserve and is water-resistant to 100 meters.

It comes on a black clous de Paris patterned rubber strap, an original Mr. Genta design first used on the Maestro Anniversary watch in 2019.

Watch Description

Mr. Genta’s recognizable Maestro casing design is combined with an outstanding and unusual open-worked movement. It fully honors the ‘art’ of the automatic watch in the latest Maestro 8.0 Squelette. Under the innovation management of modern timepiece creator Mr. Octavio Garcia, this unique and innovative in-house manufacturing ultra-thin automatic movement was explicitly designed for Gerald Charles with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier.

The Maestro GC 8.0 Squelette’s casing is based on the Maestro 2.0 Ultra-Thin model. Besides, it has been shrunk down to 8.35mm to improve the piece’s aesthetics and push elegance and functionality to new heights. Also, the new Maestro 8.0 Squelette, like all Gerald Charles watches, has a screw-down crown that guarantees water resistance of up to 100 meters.

Combining the Maestro’s distinctive case design with a skeleton movement was obviously difficult. This is both in terms of appearance and practicality of creation – a fact that enabled Garcia’s expertise in delivering the idea to reality all the more vital. Dozens of variations were required in the design phase, all of which were created by hand, in order to examine all of the options correctly.

Garcia had a benefit in creating the skeletonized edition of the Maestro because he collaborated with Vaucher on the development of the patented automated GCA 5482 caliber. This enabled him to determine which portions could be effectively skeletonized and which could be left to the aesthetic perspective.

Gerald Charles Maestro 8.0 Squelette movement contains 160 elements. However, it is ultra-thin at only 2.6mm in height and features a stunning star-shaped gold micro-rotor. It rotates on ceramic bearings to enable as much of the system to be visible as possible. Given the small size, the Maestro 8.0 Squelette has an astounding 50-hour power reserve.

The skeletonized bridging on the dial is satin-finished and rhodium-plated, or anthracite NAC coated. On the other hand, all bevels, angles, and apertures are hand-polished, with all wheels circular-grained on every surface. A system of nine star-shaped screws holds the rehaut (the interior ring between the crystal and the dial) in place. They were created and produced exclusively for Gerald Charles.

Additionally, the Maestro 8.0 Squelette’s unique Maestro casing, which houses the movement, is immensely complex. It has no lesser than 18 different components, as well as a screw-down crown that guarantees waterproofness to a remarkable 100 meters. This is a function enhanced by the clous de Paris-shaped rubber clasp.
